More about Shawarma Cafe, Gurgaon

Before we talk more on our experiences, lets clear the confusion between shawarma and rolls. A shawarma wrap is the Arabian cousin of our roll, only it comes in pita bread and has Mediterranean-style filling, both veg and non-veg. Unlike shawarma, rolls come in many avatars which are oil-soaked parathas, stuffed with a sprinkling of salad.

Shawarma also comes in many wraps. “There’s chicken shawarma, masakan and falafel. Masakan is the most popular as it is made with honey mustard sauce and tasty chicken marination. The falafel is more like the veg tikka roll.

In Shawarma Cafe we met Mustafa Mirzai, who is himself from Afghanistan, runs the cafe. The chicken that was taken wasn’t immediately delicious but was worked the flavours into it. The chicken was marinated and was grilled until a little golden caramelised colour was achieved.

Then the chicken was diced into little-little pieces, and this chicken was filled into flatbread. Inside of flatbread along with marinated chicken, All sorts of other goodies, including pickled vegetables, tahini, hummus, tomatoes, cucumber, cabbage, and even French fries are added to the stuffing with the meat.

It is cooked in olive oil and is very light. The dressing wasn’t done way too much but was spread evenly throughout the flatbread. Also, this shawarma stays a little undercooked to mix the taste of the fillings with the flatbread. Shawarma is usually served with mayonnaise and pickles.

The shawarma can be a good substitute for a taco or even a roll. We will say that this cafe is the hidden gem in Gurgaon for shawarma and a must-visit for everyone who wants to taste the real authentic Afghan Shawarma & much more. Trust us guys, the environment & shawarma will give you the unique experience altogether, its like you’re eating shawarma in Afghanistan only!
